Miami…A teacher in a Brooklyn yeshiva polled his class where his young students spent Yeshiva Week (mostly the last week in January and the first week in February), the new term that was once referred to as “mid-winter vacation.” Nearly a third traveled to Nassau in the Bahamas to such luxury hotels as the Atlantis and the Baha Mar with its recent new kosher offerings at the Grand Hyatt. Other students went to Cancun, Turk and Cacaos, and a good number to Miami. “You might say that my students are spoiled as they spent their week off in luxury destinations I would never dream of. Several operators who used to focus on Passover now offer Yeshiva Week programs. Restaurants in popular destinations like Miami were fully booked with reservations hard to come by. What was an afterthought season for kosher foodservice is emerging as a major new profitable season.
