Tel Aviv…Israeli food brokers in many parts of the world say that kosher sales are growing in many parts of the world, including the UK, France, and several countries in South America. They say that countries like France are an anomaly when it comes to kosher food. Despite a sizable emigration of kosher-eating Jews, they estimate that the sale of kosher foods has grown by nearly 10% in the last year alone. They explain that existing customers are buying more, especially amongst younger consumers that are staying put. Demand was also up in communities like Manchester in the UK. The opening of a new kosher restaurant made news in Ecuador as did a new kosher stand in a prominent soccer stadium in Buenos Aires as exporters say there is growing demand in South America. Even countries with skyrocketing intermarriage are buying more kosher food products. This phenomenon has been consistent in almost every country with a strong kosher community. Israeli kosher foods are routinely part of the kosher set in all of these countries, especially in kosher chains like Hyper Cacher in France. On the eve of Rosh Hashanah, all of these countries are experiencing a surge in the demand for kosher food products. Some Europeans kosher food experts say that some kosher food in Germany, Holland and Belgium is also consumed by many non-Jews.
