Dramatic Rise in Commercially Prepared Purim Baskets

New York…The days of putting together baskets of Mishloach Manos (traditional exchange of gifts on Purim, March 7th) at home are over, according to experts in the kosher market. Several experts said that sales of the prepared baskets have more than doubled in the past three years. Some told Kosher Today that the surge may have been due to the concerns over Covid. Like many other items in the kosher food market, the baskets have gone up in price by an average of 12%. Many supermarkets around the country set up a special endcap or display case with the baskets, many from well-known New York based purveyors. The supermarkets are already experiencing increased traffic with many households preparing to host the traditional Purim meals and yes there are still families that put together creative mishloach manos from scratch.
