Consumers Scramble for Kosher Baby Formula

Brooklyn…Throughout the baby formula shortage, Malka paid a hefty price for kosher baby formula that was being sold by a local woman in her basement. She was hoping that the Israeli manufactured Materna would be available by now, especially since she had heard on radio that the FDA was allowing more imported baby formula. In fact, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) had already approved a shipment of more than 8.5 million pounds of kosher baby formula from the U.K. More than 4.8 million cans of Global Kosher's Kendamil First Infant Formula with Iron will be shipped to the U.S. over the next few months to ease the shortage. The company will immediately ship 25,000 cases, or 150,000 cans, followed by another 200,000 cases, or 1.2 million cans, per month afterward, according to the FDA.
