Back to School Season Segues into High Holy Days

Lakewood, NJ…The calendar this year is turning into a huge bonanza for kosher retail as the late Rosh Hashanah (eve of September 25th) allowed for a Back-to-School season. In some years when the end of summer collapses into the high holy days, evidence has shown that sales were ultimately lower by at least 10%. Experts say that when consumers shop, they focus in early September on replenishing their pantries after a long summer and then return to school before focusing on the holidays. In many markets, shoppers tend to shop slightly differently for the Fall weather with many “hot” foods doing well.
