Passaic…Almost thirteen years to the day that Pomegranate opened in Brooklyn, two new kosher independent stores opened in Passaic and Cleveland. Pomegranate became the trailblazer of a new generation of large kosher independent supermarkets that gave kosher consumers a one-stop shopping upscale experience with a huge selection of kosher certified items. Within the span of a week, The Grove opened in Cleveland on the site where a Season’s was set to open before the previous owners went bankrupt. The Aisle One supermarket in Passaic is part of the Brook Haven mall. “This will be the largest kosher shopping experience in the region,” said Mark Raider, Brook Haven’s CEO. The mall is set to include a kosher liquor store, Judaica bookstore, and rooftop dining in addition to the 26,000 square feet Aisle One. The development is also scheduled to include 130 apartments as well as a wedding hall, Mr. Raider told Kosher Today.
