The Hazards of Running Growing Kosher Programs

Woodcliff Lake…Operators of kosher programs at hotels around the world have dramatically expanded their horizons with programs on Chanukah, Mid-winter vacation, Shavuot, Sukkot and random weekends. But as these programs have expanded and thousands of vacationers have taken advantage of the soup to nuts short vacations, so have the possibilities of mishaps such as shortages of food and manpower, or malfunctions at the hotel such as breakdowns of heating and cooling systems. On Saturday night of Chanukah (December 24th), hundreds of guests in a Hilton hotel had to be evacuated into the frigid outdoors when a pipe burst. For operators such unforeseen episodes are part of their worst nightmares. In this instance, guests had already spent a very successful Shabbos program and what they missed was concerts and many children’s programs that was to extend into Sunday. One operator told Kosher Today: “These programs have really taken off especially after Covid and specifically with young people with children.”
