Stores Receive Rosh Hashanah Products as High Holy Days Less Than Two Months Away

Lakewood NJ…The tractor trailer was unloading palette after palette of grocery products but some of the boxes had bottles of honey while others were honey biscuits. Some grocers who would normally be lounging on their summer vacations were busy preparing for holidays and dealing with possible delayed deliveries due to some shortages of drivers. Rosh Hashanah this year falls on Labor Day eve (September 6th), one of the earliest dates that the Jewish New Year can fall on. “We sometimes have three seasons at the end of August, late summer, return to school and the holidays, but this year it will all be condensed,” said one kosher grocer. Many Jewish schools will advance the opening to late August instead of the traditional post- Labor Day start. The schools need the time to teach students about the Jewish holidays and are also conscious of the calendar, which will basically close schools for the entire month of September.
