Stay-at-home High Holy Days Likely to Bump Sales by 15%

New York…Thousands of people who normally travel to various destinations in the US and abroad are likely to celebrate the upcoming High Holy Days at home. “It looks like the holidays will mimic Passover when most kosher consumers celebrated the holiday at home,” said the manager of one kosher supermarket in Brooklyn. Israeli hotels say that they are not expecting any significant bookings from overseas over the holiday hoping instead to fill rooms with local guests at sharply reduced prices. What this means is that sales of kosher foods for the holidays will rise by at least 15%, say kosher food sources. While they expect a significant increase in the sale of traditional holiday foods, they are particularly expecting robust sales in meat and poultry as well as fish, bakery, and prepared foods. The kosher food sources are not ruling out spot shortages of some key items. For many Chasidic Jews who normally travel to spend their holidays in the courtyards of their rabbis in Israel and Europe, this year it will be staying at home. Many synagogues will be restricting the number of members due to social distancing requirements. In addition, there will be many popup outdoor synagogues in many areas.
