Kyiv…Thousands of Ukrainian refugees still in Ukraine or in temporary shelters in Hungary and Romania are clamoring for kosher food. “The leading provider of kosher food for Ukrainian refugees is the Reb Shayale Kerestirer Guesthouse organization, headed by Rabbi Moshe Yosef Friedlander,” said Ukrainian rabbi Shlomo Wilhelm of Zhytomyr. Rabbi Nachman Oberlander needed the kosher food from the Hungarian town of Kerestir for the refugees who had found temporary shelter in Budapest. “I was amazed at the many pallets of fresh meat that the Kerestir Guesthouse sent here and to temporary refugee camps in Romania, including 1,000 nutritious meals.” Rabbi David Bleich, Chief Rabbi of Ukraine told Kosher Today that his Central Synagogue in Kyiv was the only remaining functioning synagogue in the war-torn Ukraine. He also said that he was providing three meals a day to the several hundred refugees who had found refuge in his synagogue.
