Omicron Variant Postpones Chanukah Reopening of Israel to Tourists

Jerusalem…Just as Israel was preparing to welcome a large number of tourists for Chanukah (eve of November 28- December 5), the country seems to be closing its borders again due to the threat of the newly discovered Omicron variant. According to tourism officials, 30,345 foreign tourists have entered Israel since the country was reopened for non-Israeli passport holders on November 1st. 7,500 tourists came from the US. Getting into Israel for foreigners has become a daunting task, particularly as the government is constantly changing the regulations. Several kosher food executives complained that their people who do business with Israel had difficulty getting in. Just as all regulations seemed to be on the verge of being relaxed comes the new Omicron variant and more restrictions. Kosher food sources do not expect the new restrictions to impact the supply chain from Israel.
