Winn-Dixie in Plantation Continues ChainÕs Expansion in Kosher

PLANTATION, FL — The new Winn-Dixie store which opened October 31st has expanded its kosher food departments just as it has done in some of its other stores, most notably in Aventura. Jeff Krieg, Winn-Dixie South Florida regional produce and sales manager, said the store is offering kosher cut up fruit. The kosher seal is affixed to the packaged fruit. This Winn-Dixie store has the largest kosher section of dry goods, 20 feet of kosher products. The store has an extensive selection of pink salmon and pimentos, beans and barbecue sauce, cranberry sauce and fruit pie fillings. It also has four feet devoted to kosher cheese products.

"Actually more than 1,000 Winn-Dixie products,  with our name on them is kosher," an official said. There is also a kosher style deli featuring whitefish salad, potato pancakes, stuffed cabbage, matzo balls and more. Vanette Kennedy, regional sales manager of the deli and bakery said the new Winn-Dixie store has a full line of kosher bakery items.

"A lot of our customers want kosher sugar-free and parve bakery items and we have a large selection," Kennedy said. The new store also features a large assortment of pre-packaged kosher meats, kosher deli meat, dairy products and grab-and-go meals including latkes, knishes, salads, soups and cabbage, as well as bakery items such as black and white cookies and rugelach. Unlike its Aventura store, there is no mashgiach on the premises.
