Austin, Tx…Despite having a plethora of kosher certified foods, the Whole Foods chain was in the past said to be passive at best when it came to kosher. But industry sources and indeed the chain itself seemed to have turned the corner and are now aggressively pursuing the lucrative kosher market. It has already introduced its Chanukah program. The retailer is touting its availability of whole organic turkeys, pumpkin puree and roasted chestnuts to latkes, matzo meal and Chanukah gelt (chocolate coins). In addition to offering Kedem organic grape juice, Whole Foods is also marketing antibiotic-free kosher poultry options from Kosher Valley including fresh and frozen whole young turkeys and chickens, ground turkey and value pack options, which are all certified by the Orthodox Union and K'hal Adath Jeshurun. Kosher sources say that many kosher consumers prefer the shopping experience at Whole Foods because of their wide selection of organic and natural products, which are increasingly popular with kosher consumers.
