TRANSITION: Robbie Schonfeld of Ossie’s Fish Passes Away at 52

Woodmere LI - The untimely passing of Robbie Schonfeld after a short illness shocked the kosher food world who were used to his perpetual smile and extraordinary generosity. Ossie’s Fish Market was founded in the ‘60’s in Boro Park by Robbie’s father Yosef (“Ossie”), a Holocaust survivor born in Czechoslovakia. The store eventually expanded into Ossie’s Table, a highly regarded fish restaurant which was open for 13 years. All the while Ossie’s developed a large wholesale business and became a premier kosher brand of fish. When Robbie joined the business at the tender age of 15, he further developed Ossie’s as a brand of fish that included many products including frozen gefilte fish. After Yosef’s passing in 2000, Ossie’s continued to sell its fish products by opening its own stores within several major retail locations, including Gourmet Glatt in Cedarhurst and Boro Park. Robbie was well known for having founded and directed the Ossie Toy Fund which distributed toys to Israeli children with cancer. The project was named after his late father. In addition to the toy fund, Robbie was extremely involved in many communal endeavors. The kosher community joins his family and the community in mourning his passing.
