Summer of 2020 Boon for Kosher Sales in Catskills

Monticello, NY…The summer of 2020 is in full force in New York’s Catskill Mountains as upward of 350,000 kosher adherents are expected to fill every development and bungalow colony. Lines at ShopRite in Monticello in mid-June foretold what is shaping up to be a banner year for kosher food sales. A major factor for this increase is the ban on sleep away camps and the transformation of these traditional camps to day camps. This has forced many people to rent bungalows so that their children can go to these day camps. Eve was considering leasing an RV to travel to national parks but when her son’s class registered for day camp, he cancelled the plans. Her son would be coming home every evening to sleep in the bungalow she rented, a first for her since she herself was but 12-year-old and joined her parents in a bungalow for the summer. Summer travel will be one of the casualties of Covid-19 as many people cancelled trips abroad including kosher cruises. Israel is not an option either as the country grapples with a second wave of Covid and is still virtually locked down when it comes to international travel. Many would be travelers to Israel are avoiding the country due to its strict quarantine requirements
