Merchandising Rosh Hashanah Takes on Many Forms

AVENTURA, FLA -- The Winn-Dixie store in Aventura was in holiday mode well before other stores unveiled their FSI’s and other merchandising programs in advance of Rosh Hashanah. The chain was inviting customers to its annual ‘Taste of Rosh Hashanah’ event at select stores.

Said Winn-Dixie: “ As part of the celebrations, guests will have the opportunity to enjoy a special tasting featuring exclusive holiday recipes developed by Winn-Dixie’s own prepared foods team including succulent sweet and sour brisket, sweet noodle kugel, challah and apples with honey.”

This was the week that retailers all over the country launched their merchandising programs for the upcoming holiday. Rosh Hashanah begins on the eve of September 16th and ushers in a near month of holidays that ends with Simchat Torah on October 9th. In addition to the brisket and the sweet products, some stores say that they will focus on baked goods as well as ingredients for housewives that will be doing their own baking.

Several stores told KosherToday that they will be concentrating on higher-end meets as well as baked goods. Various gourmet honey brands will also be on display as will several new wines. The stores said that the High Holy Days represent 20% of all kosher sales year-round.
