Many New Wines for Rosh Hashanah this Year

NEW  YORK — Wine connoisseurs and others celebrating Rosh Hashanah and the upcoming Jewish holidays will have many new wines to choose from. At an upcoming Kosher Wine Society gathering in New York, some 75 new wines will be on display. Many of the wines are being released by the Kedem group.

A few of the wines that are certain to be on the top of the list come from Israel. They include such wines as Yarden 2T 2009, an intriguing blend of two Portuguese varieties, Tinta Cao and Touriga Nacional; Galil Mountain, Yiron 2009; Gilgal Chardonnay, aged for four months; and Yarden Heightswine 2011, a sweet dessert wine that is elegant, and of an extremely high quality.

Rosh Hashanah is a prime wine buying season, especially since this year it is followed by a Shabbat and then two more “three day holidays” on Succos and Shmini Atzeret/Simhat Torah.
