Many Foreigners Forego Israeli Passover; Orlando a Leading Destination

Jerusalem - Many Americans and Europeans who traditionally spend Passover in Israel are this year opting instead for destinations in the US and Europe because of security concerns in Israel. The notable exceptions are the luxury brand hotels like the Waldorf Astoria that are nearing capacity. In Israel, bookings in April 2014 and 2015, the months of Passover, accounted for nearly 10 percent of the total hotel income for western Jerusalem in those years, according to Israel’s Central Bureau of Statistics. With nearly 150 destinations in the US alone, many of these programs are the beneficiaries of this change. Orlando is by far a key destination, especially because of the week-long interim days (Chol Hamoed). Hundreds of private homes were rented in Orlando in addition to organized programs in the city. A new addition this year will be the Rosen Plaza Hotel, where Majestic Retreats will be operating the program. The hotel recently built a 5000 square foot kosher kitchen which will serve vacationers and event catering year-round.
