Kosher Industry Pushes Forward on Gluten-Free for Passover

Chicago… Like many other kosher food executives, Yakov Yarmove of SuperValu is already fully engaged in preparing for Passover, although the holiday is still over three months away. Food executives are anticipating many new and exciting items, just as it has been for the past few years. But they particularly singled out the many new gluten-free items that will help large numbers of people with Celiac Disease or who are allergic to wheat enjoy the holiday. In fact, many food executives have indicated that they are hoping that the new Passover items will last well beyond the Passover holiday. At last November’s Kosherfest, Yidels Devils Food Mini Chocolate Swiss Roll won the Best New Passover Product at Kosherfest New Product Competition 2010. Manufactured by Shabtai Gourmet, the company is a dedicated gluten free, dairy free, peanut free, soy free, lactose free, casein free and corn free kosher bakery. Shabtai ships gluten-free sweets across the United States & Puerto Rico. In association with the Celiac Disease Foundation, Kedem has expanded their line of all natural gluten free products to include Yehuda Gluten Free Matzo-Style Squares, Gefen Cake, Cookie and Frosting Mixes, in addition to a line of Gluten Free Gefen King Krunch Cereals. “Though admittedly these products were developed to meet the needs of kosher consumers during Passover, we were ecstatic to learn that the products have been well received in the greater Celiac community,” said Harold Weiss, VP of Sales for Kedem Food Products International. “People who have previously been limited due to their dietary restrictions now have a tremendous new assortment of options, and as demand increases we will continue to add to our product lineup.”
