Kosher Food Purveyors Uncertain of Summer Business

South Fallsburg…There are mixed signals coming from the authorities and others whether bungalow colonies, developments and camps will be able to open on time or even with a delay this coming summer. For kosher food purveyors who already faced the uncertainty before Passover, the loss of businesses like the Catskills may be significant. One distributor said: “not really, it’s like 6 of one and ½ dozen of the other.” In his mind if resorts like the Catskills do not open in late June, it will only mean that the business will shift to the city. “I will certainly follow the business and if it means increasing our summer business in the city, so be it.” An estimated 350,000 Jews travel to New York’s Catskill Mountains for the summer.
