Kashrus Officials to Examine Changes in Status of Many Products

NEW YORK — The downtown Manhattan headquarters of the Orthodox Union will be the site of the annual gathering of kashrus officials from around the world. Sponsored by the Association of Kashrus Organizations (AKO), the officials will revisit some of the pressing issues that have been at the center of attention in the kosher certification community.

Some of these concerns will involve the status of extra virgin olive oil, updates on infestation data, Glycerin certification and understanding and resolving trucking issues in various parts of the world. According to Rabbi Sholem Fishbane, executive director of AKO, the conference will look at many concerns that apply to kashrus organizations globally. The conference will also look at Legal and Moral Obligation to Mashgichim (i.e. pensions, disabilities, retirement, insurance); Avoiding Lawsuits and Government Intervention; Group 1 Information; New Technology for the Kashrus Professional, and Chillul Shabbos for a Caterer’s Employees: the Va’ad’s responsibility.
