Kashrus Agencies Adjust to COVID-19 Crisis

Chicago…The leadership of the Association of Kashrus Organizations has held several emergency telephone conferences to deal with the repercussions of the Coronavirus on kosher certification, according to Rabbi Sholem Fishbane, its executive director. Kashrus has been impacted by the inability of mashgichim to travel, government travel restrictions, mashgichim in quarantine, and plants that may be closed. Other issues that were discussed were extending kashrus certificates that are expiring, mashgichim working at closed establishments, new kashrus applications where travel is impossible. Several supervisors scheduled to oversee kashrus at Passover programs have abruptly ended their work as these programs closed.
