Growing Appetite for ÒDealsÓ Helps Surge of On-Line Coupon Site

New York… It may not be like clipping coupons from the Wednesday food ads, but an increasing number of kosher consumers are taking advantage of on-line discounts, the modern-day version of the coupons. Offering unique opportunities around the greater New York Metro Area, is a relatively new on-line site that offers daily deals in such areas as Northern New Jersey and Brooklyn, Long Island, Riverdale, and Westchester, as well as Manhattan, Queens and other surrounding areas. A sampling of recent deals featured on the site shows charity opportunities, Israeli cell phone options, and of course lots of kosher food.

While several different Jewish-oriented Groupon-like sites exist, KosherKouponz differs in a number of salient ways. For example, KosherKouponz has a strict vetting process for potential merchants, only displaying deals from merchants with acceptable kosher certifications. As David Siegel, CEO of KosherKouponz remarked, “we view ourselves as not only a mere coupon site, but also as a service to the greater Jewish community. We seek to offer the Groupon experience to the Jewish community, by displaying food deals from kosher restaurants and entertainment options that cannot be found on other coupon sites.”

Launched in December 2010 and now 11,000 members strong, KosherKouponz is growing and will be expanding into the Los Angeles market in the near future. Recently, KosherKouponz offered a deal together with Carlos and Gabby’s a popular Mexican restaurant chain, selling over 2,300 coupons, a record for the site. “Our members like being introduced to new products and services, and our merchants enjoy the business. It’s a win-win situation.” Seigel said. “We work with our merchants to ensure that they are accommodated and that their business benefits from the venture. So far our merchants have been very satisfied and many have or intend to run a second round of deals in the future.”
