For Many in Kosher, Next Stop is Rosh Hashanah; For Others More Opportunities Enroute

NEW YORK — For many kosher food professionals, the next significant milestone on the Jewish calendar is Rosh Hashanah (eve of September 24th). Many of the larger chains have already placed their orders for the High Holy Days which will set off almost three weeks of holidays come late September. In major markets like New York, the emphasis will be on the summer vacation destinations, primarily the Catskills where an estimated 375,000 Jews will be vacationing.

Included on the summer calendar will be the Nine Days a period (of mourning for the destruction of the First and Second Temple) in which dairy foods are eaten that culminates with the fast day of the Ninth of Av (Tisha B’Av).
