Education Programs and Supermarket Tours Propel Passover Sales

Chicago…For nearly five hours, more than 1,000 customers jammed into the Highland Park Jewel Osco store on Sunday April 3rd. It was billed the 1st Annual Taste of Passover Food Fair and had all the trimmings of a combined food fair and carnival. More than 20 vendors manned booths at the event. Chef Rafael Peron prepared several Passover dishes as a live Klezmer band entertained nearby. Yakov Yarmove, who is responsible for  Ethnic Marketing and Specialty Foods at Albertsons Companies  believes that holiday fairs like these help propel Passover sales, which represents 40% of year-round kosher food sales. In many communities, supermarket tours are helping customers understand how to shop a store before Passover. In Tucson, Rabbi Eliezer Eidlitz, the Kosher Information Bureau’s rabbinic administrator, conducted a tour at the Albertsons on E. Grant Road. In Los Angeles, the Orthodox Union West Coast Region led an annual tour at several Ralph’s stores from March 30th through April 6th.

Kashrus agencies around the country and in Canada conducted seminars in various communities as well as published their annual directories and even offered special apps. The Orthodox Union on April 6th sponsored an annual Live 2016 Passover Webinar where experts answered Passover-related questions
