Could Israelis Drink their Coveted Elite Coffee That is Made Overseas

TEL AVIV — The news that the Strauss Group will close down the Safed Elite coffee factory and transfer the employees to other plants in the area has seriously raised the specter that Israelis may soon be drinking their Israeli coffee made in such countries as Poland. Strauss said that it will close its Elite coffee plant in Safed because of complaints about the environment, and will move part of the production overseas.

In Israel, people drink an average of 3.5 cups of coffee a day and covet the unique taste of the Elite coffee. Israelis cannot stomach the taste of coffees made elsewhere, hence the failed attempt by Starbuck's to open branches in Israel.
