BREAKING NEWS: Yakov Yarmove National Head of Kosher for Albertson’s

Boise, Idaho - Yakov Yarmove, a veteran kosher category executive, has been named the national head of kosher for Albertson’s. Mr. Yarmove served in a number of senior positions in the supermarket industry, most recently with Jewel-Osco. In making the announcement, Mr. Larry Hansen, VP Specialty Foods for Albertson’s said: “It is with great pleasure that I would like to announce that Yakov Yarmove will now be taking the corporate lead on all things Kosher for our company, reporting into myself for the national kosher business. We look forward to be utilizing Yakov’ s tremendous knowledge and experience of this category, as well as his community and vendor relationships, to help us grow this vital part of our business. I ask that you please work closely with him on any Kosher-related matters for all banners of our company, as he will be able to provide you with any necessary direction you may be in need of.”

Albertsons closed its $8 billion buyout of Safeway in January, drastically increasing the company's size. It now operates 2,205 stores in 33 states under 18 names. Safeway locations make up 1,247 of those stores. Other names under Safeway operations include Vons, Tom Thumb and Randalls. The company also operates 456 Albertsons supermarkets in 16 states. Other retail banners include Shaw's, Jewel-Osco, Acme, United Supermarkets, Pavilions, and Star Markets. Albertsons employs about 265,000 full- and part-time workers. It had revenue of $27.2 billion in fiscal 2014, but the addition of Safeway results boosts that revenue figure to $57.5 billion, which makes it the second-largest traditional supermarket chain the U.S. behind Kroger.
