As Kosher Menus Expand, Rabbis Try New Dishes

Chicago…Venison and Buffalo made it on to menus of upscale restaurants in the ‘90’s, but according to rabbis, there are many other birds and animals that make the kosher grade and can theoretically be added to restaurant menus. On July 24th, the Chicago Rabbinical Congress (cRc) is hosting a day of education and tasting “in the halachic (Jewish law) adventure of unique birds and animals. After a morning session that will deal with the halacha, participants will be feted with some of these rare dishes at a multi-course dinner at Shallots Bistro, one of Chicago’s leading upscale restaurants. Each dish served will be interspersed with related audio-visual presentations by the cRc rabbis and world-renowned Ari Greenspan and Ari Zivotofsky of famed Halachic Adventures. The cRc program will be closely watched by kosher restaurateurs and caterers for the dishes that make the biggest hits.
