AKO Foregoes Annual Post-Kosherfest Conference in Favor of Vaadim Conference

CHICAGO — The Thursday or the day after Kosherfest has in recent years been reserved for the annual conference of the Association of Kashrus Organizations (AKO) at the headquarters of the Orthodox Union in Lower Manhattan. But this year, organizers opted to convene an AKO Vaadim Conference November 3 - 4th at the  Capital Retreat Center in Pennsylvania, approximately one and a half hours from Baltimore. The Vaadim (or kashrus committees) has taken on added importance as so many of the local kashrus committees play a pivotal role in kashrus supervision and certification. In a statement, AKO noted: “Due to the close proximity of the Vaadim Conference to Kosherfest, the annual NY AKO conference will not be held this year. The Conference host is the Star-K Kosher Certification, based in Baltimore.
