Secaucus NJ - Avi Katz, 19, a yeshiva student currently studying in Israel, was the winner of the first ever Kosher Masters Competition at Kosherfest, hosted by Joy of Kosher’s Jamie Geller. With hundreds of onlookers and thousand watching via live stream, Avi tackled a mystery box to create Panko-herb crusted lamb chops. He beat out creations by Chava De Gandarias and Attorney Marc Ward. The judges included Ms. Geller, Naftali Hanau of Grow and Behold Foods, a sponsor of the event, and Elam Kornblum, the Restaurant Guy and editor of the Great Kosher Restaurants Magazine. The competition was part of the new involvement by Jamie Geller’s Joy of Kosher Kitchen which also included demonstrations by Ted Dennard of the Savannah Bee Company, Renee Muller of Our Table, Chef Laura Frankel, Chef Kasuji Tanabe, and Shifra Klein.
