It is no secret that the kosher food industry is on a constant hunt for new products. Some kosher food officials travel the world to find new products that can potentially make it onto the shelves of kosher food stores or sections. Successful new products can yield healthy profits. Hello industry! Look no further than to the creative kosher home cooks that “cook up” many more new products than you might be able to handle. Some are just a few steps away from creating a winner.
Perhaps we may be able to follow the model of Kosher Tank, which I read about in a recent edition of Mishpacha. Sponsored by the Kashruth Council of Canada (COR), Kosher Tank invited contestants to enter their products. Filmed before a panel of judges, the contestants pitched their products. The event was filmed at Kitchen 24, a shared space kitchen facility with two dedicated kosher kitchens for meat and pareve. Within a week of appearing on-line, the show was viewed by more than 10,000 people. Perhaps there is a germ of an idea here: Use a public kosher kitchen, invite contestants, gather a panel of judges from the industry and go from there. Perhaps we’ll get many new products this way.
