Newark, NJ…by Eda Kram… “For the past few years, the New Jersey Division of Consumer Affairs has had an active presence at Kosherfest to disseminate educational materials about the State’s regulations, registration requirements and overall consumer rights when it comes to kosher products,” said Paul R. Rodríguez, Acting Director of the Division of Consumer Affairs. The Bureau of Kosher Enforcement within the New Jersey Division of Consumer Affairs protects consumers who purchase kosher products by promoting compliance with State law through inspections and public outreach efforts. “The two-day event also provides a great opportunity for the Division’s Bureau of Kosher Enforcement to meet with representatives of other states and various agencies who supervise facilities in New Jersey to discuss important issues that affect the kosher industry.”
The Kosher Food Consumer Protection Act and other regulations require businesses to prominently display accurate and detailed information about the foods and products they market, sell, or prepare as kosher. The Division works year-round to ensure all food and products offered for sale as kosher in New Jersey are prepared according to the representations made by merchants. When merchants do not live up to their representations, the Division has the power to take enforcement action.
