Secaucus, NJ…It was hard to believe that this was the 30th anniversary of Kosherfest, but most people sensed the dramatic changes in the industry. Some 6000 trade representatives exhibited and visited the 2018 edition (November 13-14), honoring the pioneers who had exhibited all 30 years and taking part in many news making seminars on trends in kosher, technology, restaurants, foodservice, and kosher certification. Most industry experts agreed that on average the kosher food industry grew by approximately 12% in the past 12 months, although this was not true for all parts of the country. Most purveyors said they recorded between 4% and 12% with only a few saying that sales were flat. The number of new kosher certified products continued to grow. An estimated 350 items were added in the last year in addition to many ingredient items. Discount chains like Trader Joe’s continued to increase their kosher offerings. This was some of which was discussed amongst industry officials at Kosherfest.
