Chicago…It is the flagship kosher store in the Albertson’s chain. The Evanston Jewel-Osco store reopened its magnificent Kosher Marketplace on November 17th with an impressive layout and design. Many of the innovations at the magnificent kosher supermarket within a large supermarket is the brainchild of Yakov M. Yarmove, Corporate Director of Ethnic Marketing and Specialty Foods for Albertsons Companies. At reopening ceremonies, the chain donated $2000 to the Chicago Chesed Fund. Throughout the huge store are various Kosher Marketplace sections for such categories as Packaged Breads & Sweets, Baked Goods, Ready Meals, Meats, Takeout, Media, Fish & Sushi, Produce, Cheese, Foods from the Holyland and more. The store has always enjoyed a special relationship with the local Jewish community and the store’s kosher expansion in recent years reflected the growth of the kosher community in the Chicago area. Experts say that the Jewel-Osco store is one of 50 chain stores that have dedicated large kosher sections in their stores. Amongst the chains that have invested heavily in such stores are Shop-Rite, Stop & Shop, Kroeger’s, Ralph’s, Winn-Dixie, and Publix.
