Vegetarian pork beans sold as kosher. It’s all in the label or in the mislabel, as we discuss in our lead story…This may be the “convenience” generation but home-baked challah is soaring and so is hummus, which is now being marketed as a snack as well…We covered the debate over trans fats in New York and especially on how it effects kosher. Now it’s spilling over elsewhere…There is a new breed of hotels in the Catskills and it’s quite a leap from the “Borscht Belt” era…From our Israeli Bureau Chief Idele Ross comes an interesting story of two companies launching identical products on the same day…Orthodox dads who once stayed away from supermarkets are increasingly becoming primary shoppers…a non-kosher supermarket chain says it is not for sale despite a down season around Passover…Kosherfest representatives are in Israel, including me.
