Materna Promises Return to Shelves

Moshav Beit Halevi, Israel…Materna, a baby formula producer in Israel (owned by Osem), has vowed to return to shelves in the US. KosherToday (January 30, 2012) reported that thousands of mothers who relied on Materna products because of its pareve and Badatz certification status are pleading for the company to resume shipments to the US. The KosherToday story reported that the products were being denied access to the US market by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA). In a statement released to KosherToday, Materna noted: "Materna has stopped  the supply of Badatz kosher infant formula to the US Hasidic and ultraorthodox community. However, we are now doing our best to resume the supply of Badatz kosher Infant Formula  as soon as possible. It goes without saying that any product Materna sells in the US must be compliant with the FDA's requirements." The KosherToday story inadvertently mentioned Remedia in the story, which has no connection to Materna. Remedia had been involved in a massive recall after its formula was linked to illness and even death to babies.
