Manchester's Newest Kosher Restaurant to Highlight Upscale Dining

Manchester, UK…There was an old saying amongst some Orthodox Jews that any city with a kosher pizza shop and kosher Chinese Restaurant “has made it.” This may no longer be true as the new barometer shifts to whether the city has an upscale kosher restaurant. For Manchester’s estimated 30,000 Jews, a new Restaurant soon to open here with the name Rare (not to be confused with the popular Rare Steakhouse in Miami Beach) is set to open in March . The restaurant will be a steakhouse with a a 60-seat glass-fronted corner unit on one of the major thoroughfares into the city centre, says the Jewish Chronicle. A kosher food official with knowledge of the community said that over the past 20 years, “I’ve seen kosher restaurants come and go,” which sounds very much like the business in general. But here there seems to be a high level of optimism that Rare will indeed make it. One reason is that it will be staffed by a leading chef from Israel. Another reason is that Daniel Zatman, the entrepreneur behind the venture has managed 40 restaurants for a major contract catering firm in venues as varied as Heathrow Airport and the Ministry of Justice. "It's going to be a high-quality kosher restaurant of similar look, feel and expectation to a quality general restaurant," he told the Jewish Chronicle.
